16.2.1 Independent Representation in UniMAP Governance
Ensuring Accountability and Effective Oversight
According to the UniMAP Constitution – Section 17(1)(f) (pdf page 18), the Board of Directors includes three members from the private sector.
This structure ensures that the University’s governance is robust, accountable, and capable of providing effective scrutiny over its core academic mission.
Role of Independent Members
The independent members:
- Draw upon their expertise and experience from diverse fields outside academia.
- Provide challenge and constructive oversight to University decision-making.
- Support the University in strategic planning and policy development.
Representation Reflecting the University Community
The composition of the Board reflects the diversity of UniMAP’s stakeholders, including:
- Staff
- Students
- External representatives
This inclusive governance model ensures balanced decision-making and aligns with best practices for transparent and accountable university administration.
Alignment with SDG 16.2
By incorporating independent members and diverse stakeholders, UniMAP promotes effective, inclusive, and accountable governance, contributing to SDG Target 16.2, which emphasizes transparency, participation, and strong institutions.
