2.2.1 Promoting Sustainable Food Management at UniMAP
At Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), the Centre of Sustainable Campus and Energy Management (COSCEM) leads initiatives to reduce food waste and promote sustainable practices on campus. COSCEM manages the collection of food waste from campus cafés, where staff carefully weigh and record the waste before processing it in a composting machine. This process transforms food waste into nutrient-rich compost fertilizer, which can be used for campus landscaping and agricultural activities.
By diverting food waste from landfills and converting it into valuable resources, UniMAP contributes to responsible food management and environmental sustainability. These efforts reflect the university’s commitment to ensuring that food resources are used efficiently, supporting broader goals of nutrition security and sustainable development in line with SDG 2.
