16.3.1 Coordination Workshop on the Amendment Act A1713 and Public University Gazette Documents
From 25 to 27 July 2024 (Thursday to Saturday), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) participated in the Coordination Workshop on the Proposed Effective Date of Amendment Act A1713 and Public University Gazette Documents.
This workshop served as an important platform for aligning the implementation timeline and administrative processes related to Act A1713, which governs amendments to key legislative provisions affecting Malaysian public universities. The discussions focused on ensuring consistency, clarity, and legal compliance across institutions in relation to university governance and statutory documentation.
Through UniMAP’s active involvement in this initiative, the university demonstrated its commitment to good governance, transparency, and institutional integrity, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

16.3.2 Promoting Awareness on Intellectual Property Protection
A sharing session titled “The Importance of Intellectual Property Protection and Registration for the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sena Innovation Project” was conducted at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sena, involving teachers and students preparing to participate in the 2024 Innovation Project.
The session aimed to raise awareness and understanding of intellectual property (IP) rights among young innovators and educators. Ms. Nur Syazwani Muhammad, Legal Officer from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), served as the guest speaker. She provided an engaging explanation of the basic concepts of intellectual property and emphasized its crucial role in safeguarding original creations, ideas, and innovations from unauthorized use or imitation.
This initiative reflects UniMAP’s commitment to promoting legal literacy, innovation ethics, and responsible creation, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. By fostering early awareness of IP protection, UniMAP helps nurture a culture of respect for intellectual rights and encourages creativity among future innovators.

Objective: To evaluate and develop targeted tuition subsidy policies aimed at strengthening the financial sustainability of public universities.
2. Feasibility Study on Establishing a Semiconductor School in Northern Malaysia
Researcher: Razaidi Bin Hussin
Duration: December 2024 – August 2025
Grant: RM125,000 (TRGS-SF Grant, FKTEN)
Objective: To assess the practicality and strategic benefits of setting up a semiconductor-focused educational institution in the northern region of Malaysia.

16.3.4 Upholding Students’ Rights to Association
In accordance with Section 15(1)–15(5) of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (Act 30), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) recognizes and respects the right of its students to participate in associations, organizations, or groups both within and outside Malaysia, including political parties.
This provision ensures that students are granted the freedom of association, an essential aspect of democratic engagement and civic responsibility. It allows students to express their interests, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to social, cultural, and political discourse while remaining in compliance with applicable laws and university regulations.
By aligning with these legal provisions, UniMAP supports the principles of justice, inclusivity, and institutional integrity, consistent with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
