16.3.4 Upholding Students’ Rights to Association
In accordance with Section 15(1)–15(5) of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (Act 30), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) recognizes and respects the right of its students to participate in associations, organizations, or groups both within and outside Malaysia, including political parties.
This provision ensures that students are granted the freedom of association, an essential aspect of democratic engagement and civic responsibility. It allows students to express their interests, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to social, cultural, and political discourse while remaining in compliance with applicable laws and university regulations.
By aligning with these legal provisions, UniMAP supports the principles of justice, inclusivity, and institutional integrity, consistent with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Through this approach, the university fosters a campus environment that values student empowerment, participation, and responsible citizenship.
