6.5.7 – Promoting Conscious Water Usage in the Wider Community

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), through the Centre for Sustainable Campus and Energy Management (COSCEM), actively extends its commitment to water conservation awareness beyond the campus by engaging with the wider community, schools, and religious institutions.

One key initiative was the Kursus Amalan Kelestarian: Program Pemuliharaan Air ke Arah Kelestarian Alam, jointly organised with the Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) on 14 May 2024 (page 37, Laporan Tahunan COSCEM 2024).

This programme involved participants from UniMAP, the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs)—including mosque representatives—and teachers from local schools. The course provided exposure to water-efficient technologies, practical demonstrations, and awareness activities promoting sustainable water management at both institutional and community levels.

Furthermore, UniMAP’s Sustainability Webinar Series 3/2024, themed “Program Pemuliharaan Air Ke Arah Kelestarian Alam Sekitar”, held in conjunction with World Water Day on 25 March 2024, reached a broad audience of over 550 participants, including representatives from external agencies (page 55). The webinar aimed to cultivate public understanding and encourage responsible water usage practices across society.

Through these initiatives, UniMAP plays an active role in educating and inspiring the wider community to adopt conscious water consumption habits, supporting national and global efforts toward sustainable water resource management.
