8.2.1 Employment practice living wage

The implementation of the Sistem Saraan Perkhidmatan Awam (SSPA) at UniMAP serves as a direct policy action advancing SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, specifically by addressing the indicator for "decent work" that includes fair wages which meet a basic standard of living.

As explicitly stated in the document, the core purpose of this remuneration reform is to "menangani pendapatan yang tidak seiring dengan kos sara hidup"—or address the mismatch between income and the cost of living. This objective is operationally achieved through a 15% phased salary adjustment and the standardization of service schemes, which collectively function as a de facto mechanism to move public sector wages closer to a living wage. Beyond direct pay, the SSPA strengthens the "decent work" agenda through enhanced allowances, the introduction of new facilities like group leave without record, improved talent management via the MyPERFORMANCE system, and robust career progression pathways. Therefore, this comprehensive overhaul is not merely an administrative update but a strategic intervention that aligns national civil service policy with the global goal of ensuring decent work and sustainable economic growth by directly boosting employee purchasing power and well-being.
Besides that, Malaysia increased the national minimum wage since 2023 by 25 percent from 1,200 ringgit (US$273) to 1,500 ringgit (US$341) UniMAP as a public university, also implements Malaysian regulations and the minimum payment for new lecturers Grade DS 45 is RM 3070 and increment RM 255 per year, as shown in PDF document Page 20.
